Cell Phones Taken at High Schools — Be Careful of 'Apple Pickers'

Cell-phone theft is becoming a national trend.

Very few weeks go by without at least one mention of a cell phone theft at a local high school. Top-of-the-line phones, of course, can be worth as much as $700, so they're easy targets.

The spike in cell-phone thefts, sometimes called "Apple picking," is a national trend and something to keep in mind when you send your favorite student off to school.

Here are two of the latest reports, from Geneva and Batavia police departments, regarding thefts at schools.
