Car Hits 79-Year-Old Pedestrian in Gas Station Parking Lot

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The front of a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Sergio Flores Cuevas, 28, of Aurora hit a West Chicago woman who was walking to the bathroom of the Shell Station at 1491 East State St. around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 2, Geneva police reports said.

The Lancer was travelling south between the western-most gas pumps and the building that holds the car wash and restrooms. Flores Cuevas said his vision was blocked by the northwest corner gas pump and he was unable to stop in time to avoid contact with Betty Teal, 79, of West Chicago.

Flores Cuevas said he was travelling about 5 mph at the time. He “immediately exited his vehicle and rendered aid to her,” reports said.

Teal told police she did not lose consciousness at any time after the contact. Teal was transported to Delnor Hospital, police reports said.
