Campton Hills House-Theft Fugitive Nabbed in St. Charles

Three law enforcement agencies on Saturday captured an area man who in 2011 reportedly fled to Turkey to avoid imprisonment on fraud and theft charges related to a home he rented in Campton Hills, authorities said Monday.

Campton Hills police, with assistance from St. Charles police and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Daniel R. Kellogg, 38, at a residence in St. Charles. He was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, burglary, deceptive practice and possession of a stolen vehicle.

He is being held without bail on the first two charges.

Campton Hills Police Chief Dan Hoffman, in a press release, said police received an anonymous tip that Kellogg was in St. Charles.

Kellogg last was in the news in 2011 when he was renting a home in Campton Hills. Police said Kellogg quit-claim deeded the residence to himself and then tried to sell it. The home’s true owner also had two vehicles at the residence, which authorities say Kellogg also stole. He scrapped one and tried to sell the other, authorities said. The release states Kellogg also authorized numerous improvements to be done to the residence, resulting in thousands of dollars of liens to be placed on the home.

According to a July 29, 2011 article in the Daily Herald, authorities issued the warrant for Kellogg’s arrest in the theft of the home and vehicles on the 40W700 block of Grand Monde Drive while Kellogg was waiting to begin serving a five-year prison term related to car burglaries at St. Charles fitness centers.

The Campton Hills release noted that after he was sentenced, Kellogg was given 30 days to report for incarceration. The release states that he reportedly fled to Turkey, where he resided until his recent return to the United States.
