Burglar Goes for the Playstation Games

Police reports: This residential burglar appears to like his (or her) video games. Maybe a Valentine's Day gift—or a trend in home burglary.

Someone took a Sony Playstation 3 video game system from the family room of a home in the 700 block of Dodson Street sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Feb. 14, reports said.

The game system was valued at $419.99.

Video games and gaming systems aren't often the sole targets of burglars, but there are plenty of examples of people going to extremes to get them.

Closer to home, the Rock Island Argus and Moline Dispatch reported that a new gang and new kind of theft—gaming equipment—accounts for a rise in residential burglaries. The Associated Press posted that one.

"Moline detective Mike Griffin says the items often stolen include Blu Ray disc players, gaming systems, iPods and televisions because they're easily sold on the streets or pawned," the report said.

And in Wheaton, there were four separate home burglaries in April, and in three of the four, computers and gaming systems were taken, according to a press release from the Wheaton Police Department.
