Blackout Cited as Reason for Crash With Postal Service Truck—and Other August Collisions in Geneva

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The summary of collision reports in Geneva during the first half of August 2012 shows an incident in which a man said he blacked out at the wheel, as well as several other accidents with injuries and citations.

Accident with Injuries on Kaneville Road—The front of a Yamaha V-Star driven by Duane Wickstrom, 61, of Geneva collided with the rear of a Frumman Postal Service vehicle driven by Scott DeFoy, 51, of Batavia around 3:34 p.m. Aug. 2 in the 1600 block of Kaneville Road about 200 feet east of Burgess Road, Geneva police reports said. Wickstrom was taken to Delnor Hospital. Wickstrom told police he blacked out for a moment, and when he came to, he was too close to the Postal Service vehicle to stop. Wickstrom was issued a warning notice for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Accident at East State and Simpson Street—The driver’s side of a Hyundai Accent driven by David Wester Jr., 26, of Geneva collided with the front of a Subaru Forester driven by Katilin McCarthy, 23, of Geneva around 7:30 a.m. Aug. 15 at the intersection of East State Street and Simpson Street, Geneva police reports said. More than $1,500 damage was done to any one vehicle. Wester was issued a warning notice for failure to yield at a stop intersection.

Accident on East Fabyan Parkway—The front of a Mazda 626LX driven by Yvonne McCrary, 57, of Lombard collided with the rear of a Chevrolet S-10 driven by Manuel Simenez-Sanchez around 5:11 p.m. Aug. 13 in the 1500 block of East Fabyan Parkway about 100 feet east of South Kirk Road, Geneva police reports said. More than $1,500 damage was done to any one vehicle. Jimanez-Sanchez was cited for driving without a license or permit and has a court date of Sept. 11.

Accident  at Kirk Road—The front of a Dodge Ram Truck driven by Roberto Tapia, 43, of Aurora collided with the rear of a BMW X3 driven by Matthew Bilinski, 20, of Batavia around 1:45 p.m. Aug. 11 in the 1900 block of Kirk Road about 100 feet north of Fabyan Parkway, Geneva police reports said. More than $1,500 damage was done to any one vehicle. Tapia was issued a warning ticket for following too closely.

Accident at Kirk Road—The front of a Toyota Avalon driven by Vu Hoang Nguyen, 25, of Montgomery collided with the rear of a Toyota Sienna driven by Richard Raske, 53, of Algonquin around 8:50 a.m. Aug. 13 in the 2100 block of Kirk Road about 15 feet north of Fabyan Parkway, Geneva police reports said. More than $1,500 damage was done to any one vehicle. Nguyen was issued a warning notice for following too closely.

Accident with Injuries at North First Street and Hamilton—The rear of a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Benjamin James III, 56, of Naperville collided with the front of a Toyota Camry driven by Michael Brosseau, 34, of South Elgin around 3:05 p.m. Aug. 8 at the intersection of North First Street and Hamilton Street, Geneva police reports said. James refused medical treatment. James was issued a warning notice for failure to yield at an intersection.
