Bike Driven Away on Garbage Pickup Day
Police Reports: A boy sees his bicycle pass by in back of a pickup on garbage collection day in Geneva, and suspects a scrap-metal collector might have taken it.
It's just a bicycle theft, you say. But for a young man seeing his bike go by on the back of a red pickup, it's kind of a big deal.
Plus, it's something for all of us in Geneva to be aware of: leaving a bicycle unattended on garbage pickup day can be tempting fate, or possibly the growing numbers of scrap-metal collectors.
Someone took a 22-inch-frame mountain bike from the sidewalk in front of a house in the 300 block of Daniels Way sometime between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 9, reports said.

According to reports, a young man rode his bicycle to his friend’s house, then left on foot. The young man told his dad that he was walking along Larrabee Drive, about a block south of his residence, when he saw his bicycle in the back of a red pickup truck that had high sideboards on the back. He said the truck appeared to be picking up scrap from the side of the road, because it was garbage night.
The bicycle has an estimated value of $100.
