Armed Robbery Reported at Old Second Bank in Batavia

The robbery occurred on Saturday, and the suspect had a semi-automatic handgun, police said. Here's a description.

A bank on Batavia's east side was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning, police said.

The robbery occurred at the Old Second National Bank on the 1000 block of East Wilson Street. Officers reported to the scene at 10:08 a.m., according to a Batavia police news release.

"The offender displayed a black semi-automatic handgun," the release said. "An unknown amount of currency was taken. No injuries were reported."

The offender left the area possibly in a white or light-colored, smaller four-door sedan, police said.

The suspect's description is as follows:

  • White male
  • About 25-30 years old
  • 5'9'' or 5'10''
  • Wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head, a black scarf covering his face and blue jeans

Police were first notified of the robbery after receiving an alarm. Officers were then notified that bank employees contacted police and told them an armed robbery occurred.

Batavia police in conjunction with the Chicago FBI field office continue to investigate this case.

A Patch reader reports that an armed robbery occurred at the Old Second National Bank, 1078 E Wilson St., Batavia, at around 10:10 a.m. Dec. 22.

The initial description was white male, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, wearing a black ski mask, black hoodie, and jeans. He was last seen eastbound Wilson Street from the bank toward Kirk Road. He had a black handgun and was driving a white or tan four-door sedan.
