Anonymous Tip Sparks Prostitution Arrest at Marigold Massage

Chicago woman arrested after police said she offered more than a massage at Prairie Street business.

An anonymous letter from a St. Charles resident who said he was offered a little something extra after a massage sparked an undercover operation at a Prairie Street business that landed a Chicago woman in police custody on prostituion charges.

Jing Zhang, 50, 227 W. 23rd St., Chicago, was charged March 7 with keeping a place of prostitution, and prostitution. Both are Class A misdemeanors. She was released on her own recognizance pending an appearance at 9 a.m. March 28 in Kane County Branch Court.

According to St. Charles police spokesman Paul McCurtain, the department received the anomymous letter from a resident who went to Marigold Massage, 2075 Prairie St., for a massage. But after the massage, the employee offered additional services for extra money, and the letter writer declined, got dressed, and left. In his letter, he asked police to investigate the incident.

On March 7, 2013, the St. Charles Police Department sent an undercover officer and a surveillance team went to Marigold Massage, police said. An undercover officer went into the business, where he received a massage from the female employee, later identified as Zhang. According to police, after the massage, Zhang offered additional sexual services for an extra fee.

Police arrested Zhang about 3:18 p.m., and transported her to the St. Charles Police Department.

According to police, Marigold Massage remains open. But if there are additional problems in the future at the business, it could be subject to the city’s nuisance abatement ordinance.

I couldn't help but notice this comment from St. Charles Economic Development Coordinator Michael Mertes a few days before this arrest took place: "He added that St. Charles has seen several new businesses open or planning to open soon on the west side of town. Blue Sky Spa, located at 1700 Lincoln Highway, and Marigold Massage, located at 2075 Prairie St., are two businesses that have recently opened near that area, as well as Mathnasium, which opened at 902 S. Randall Road. "Those are just a few of the businesses that have opened up on the west side, so we're happy to see them come into the community," Mertes said. This is economic development in St. Charles? The expansion of illicit massage parlors and the demise of multiple malls. Just the reasons I moved to this area many years ago.
