An Attempted Murder, a Man Who Punched a Nurse and a Challenge to a Red-Light Ticket All on Tap

Here's a look at some of the cases we're keeping an eye on this week.

Among the Kane and DuPage county cases we're keeping an eye on this week are the man accused of trying to kill a former St. Charles woman (a case which now crosses borders into DuPage), a mortgage-fraud case in Darien, a man charged with punching a nurse at a hospital, and a Naperville man who is challenging the process of a red-light ticket.

KANE

St. Charles—Attempted murder suspect was supposed to go on trial in DuPage in December on a domestic violence charge where the victim is the same woman he is accused of trying to kill in St. Charles. The trial was first delayed because prosecutors couldn't locate the woman to testify, in part, because she moved out of house in St. Charles where she was attacked. Bocanegra has a Feb. 16 hearing on the DuPage domestic.

Darien—A couple of different motions are scheduled for arguments on Feb. 14 in the case of the alleged  mortgage fraud scheme. One defense attorney wants two juries to hear the case, while the other defense attorney doesn't want forensic accounting evidence in trial which claims that money thefts go back to 2002.

Darien—returns to court Feb. 16. The hearing could cover a couple of different things, including whether he's formally filed an appeal of the visitation issue.

Downers Grove—There's an update to the Woodridge/Downers Grove school district land purchase controversy. Downers Grove board members previously claimed they had no interest in seeking a buyer for the land, but records show their intent appears all along to do just that. Further, is the district in line to be sued by the company that worked to broker the deal and is now demanding payment?

Hinsdale—, the man charged with punching a nurse at Adventist Hospital, is scheduled for a status hearing on Feb. 14.

Naperville—A Naperville woman is asking the court to declare her owner of 10,000-peso bill she found in a street near her home last year. She estimates the bill to be worth $750, but she likely paid around $150 to file the case in DuPage County.

Naperville—A Naperville man wants a judge to hear his appeal of a red-light ticket he received from the city. He claims the administrative hearing Naperville gave him was unfair because it didn't allow for his evidence that shows it wasn't him.
