Air Pollution Alert for Monday, Temp Could Feel Close to 100 Degrees

The National Weather Service warns about health risks for those with breathing conditions.

The National Weather Service issued an air pollution alert that will stay in effect through Monday night for Geneva and the most of the Chicago area.

People with asthma or other respiratory diseases should avoid staying outside for too long, according to the weather service and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

The alert comes along with a warning about high humidity that could make it feel close to 100 degrees Monday.

Air pollution alerts are issued when weather conditions create a situation where particles in the air rise to unhealthy levels.

Monday’s high is near 90 with heat index values that could reach 97, according to the weather service. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
