Accident Reports: Crashes and Tows Stack Up in Police Blotter

In the first 10 months of 2011, there have been 96 fewer criminal incidents and 66 more traffic accidents than a year ago.

There usually are pile of pile-ups in the Geneva Police Department reports. 

In the most recent end-of-month statistics report by the department, crime is down through October, but traffic accidents are up. In the first 10 months of 2011, there have been 96 fewer criminal incidents and 66 more traffic accidents than a year ago.

Accident with Injuries or Tow on West State Street—A Saturn Vue driven by Andrew Suter, 44, of Hillcrest collided with the rear of an Acura 3.5RL driven by Chhean Kay 59, of West Chicago around 3:18 p.m. Nov. 18 in the 2000 block of West State Street near Bricher Road, reports said. There was no damage to the Saturn but there was between $501 and $1,500 damage to the Acura. Suter said his foot slipped off the brake, resulting in the collision and was issued a warning for following too closely.

Accident on West State Street—The front of a Honda Odyssey driven by Irma Martin, 38, of North Aurora collided with the rear of a Honda Odyssey driven by Lori Emery, 35, of Geneva around 10:20 a.m. Nov. 16 in the 200 block of West State Street near Second Street, reports said. More than $1,500 damage was done to any one vehicle.

Accident With Injuries or Tow on East State Street—The front of a Saturn SL-1 driven by Nicholas Wiley, 20, of Geneva collided with the rear of a Jeep Wrangler driven by John Konen, 43, of Geneva around 3:20 p.m. Nov. 16 at the intersection of East State Street and Elm Road, reports said. The Saturn was traveling east on East State and the Jeep Wrangler was stopped in traffic at the intersection of Elm and East State. The Saturn changed lanes to the curb lane but traffic was backed up and Wiley’s Saturn struck the rear of the Wrangler. Wiley was ticketed for violating general speed restrictions. Konen was taken to Delnor Hospital, according to police reports.

Hit and Run—An unknown vehicle struck the rear of a Chevrolet Avalanch parked in the 2400 block of Keslinger Road near Lark Street around 6:30 p.m. Nov. 6, reports said. More than $1,500 damage was done to the Avalanch.

Accident at Gleneagle Drive—The rear of a Nissan Murano driven by Cheri Melching, 48, of Geneva collided with the driver’s side of a Kia Sportage driven by Marco Vargas, 49, of Geneva around 10:29 a.m. Nov. 15 in the 2300 block of Gleneagle Drive near Randall Road, reports said. More than $1,500 damage was done to any one vehicle. Melching was issued a warning ticket for improper backing.
