8 Vehicles Broken Into in One Night on Geneva's East Side

Some are smash-and-grabs, others just burglarized.

A burglar or burglars smashed window and took items from eight vehicles in a July 7 nighttime spree on Geneva's East Side, Geneva police report.

The loss in property and damage was well over $1,000, and in several cases the stolen items—including wallets and purses—were in plain view. Many of the vehicles were parked in residential driveways.

The burglaries all took place between 12:30 a.m. and noon on Sunday, July 7, Geneva police reports said. Here's a roundup: 

  • Someone took a black I-Pod classic and a brown leather wallet with contents from a vehicle in the driveway of a residence in the 900 block of Brentwood Place sometime between 11:40 p.m. July 6 and 6:30 p.m. July 7, reports said. According to reports, the victim left his wallet in the center console cup holder. When he entered the vehicle the next day, he found papers from the glove box and console thrown on the passenger seat and floor. The glove box lock appeared to have have been broken by a blunt object, reports said. The wallet, iPod and contents of the wallet were valued at $350.
  • Someone broke the windows of two vehicles parked in the driveway of a residence in the 1000 block of Brentwood Place and took several items sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. July 7, reports said. The burglar or burglars took a coach brand purse containing a wallet and other items from a Mazda CX-7 and a wallet from the cupholders that had been in full view from a Hyundai Elantra. The officer found a landscaping brick on the passenger side of the Hyundai which presumably was used to break the window.
  • Someone took a Garmin Nuvi global positioning system from a vehicle in the 800 block of Foxwood Circle in Geneva sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. July 7, reports said. There was no discernable damage to the white Pontiac. The GPS was valued at $500.
  • Someone took a stereo faceplate from a vehicle in the 800 block of Foxwood Circle during the same time period. The value of the faceplate was unknown at the time of the report,
  • Someone took an Alpine stereo amplifier from the trunk of a blue Chevrolet parked in the driveway of a home in the 800 block of Foxwood Drive sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. July 7. The value of the amplifier was unknown at the time of the report.
  • Someone broke the passenger-side window and took a wallet from a Volkswagen Jetta parked in the street in front of a residence in the 800 block of Longmeadow Drive sometime between 12:30 a.m. and noon July 7. The wallet had been left in the center console cupholder in plain view. There was about $60 cash in the wallet.
  • Someone shattered the front passenger window of a white Ford Focus parked on the north side of North Hill Road sometime between 6 a.m. July 2 and 2:36 a.m. July 8, reports said. An iPod cable valued at $15 and the owners manual of the Ford Focus were taken. The cost to repair the window was estimated at $400.

More than $2,100 in Property Taken in West Side Car Burglary 


  • Someone took a back canvass briefcase, blackberry Curve cellphone and a laptop computer from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 1900 block of Fargo Boulevard sometime between 3 p.m. July 3 and 10 a.m. July 4, reports said. The value of the items was estimated at $2,175, reports said.
