35 MPH Winds Contributed to Tuesday St. Charles House Fire; Firefighter Is OK

The fire spread into the house due to 35 mph winds, one official says Tuesday. A firefighter injured during the blaze was treated and released from Delnor Hospital.

An injured St. Charles firefighter is OK after a Tuesday-afternoon house fire that St. Charles fire officials say was made worse by yesterday's 35 mph winds.

The unnamed firefighter was treated and released from Delnor Hospital after suffering minor injuries while on the scene of the fire, located at 2010 Cambridge Drive.

No one else was injured, said one . People home at the time of the fire were able to leave unharmed.

At 12:37 p.m., firefighters arrived and found a fully-involved front porch fire that extended into the house's first and second floors. A 35 mph wind was pushing the fire inside the house.

Six departments were called for mutual aid due to the severity of the fire. Within one hour, firefighters had the fire under control but remained on scene until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials estimate the damage to the house at $150,000 with an additional $70,000 in damage to the contents.

The cause remains under investigation.
