The incident began when the three accused were inside a car at about 3:15 p.m. Monday in Sugar Grove. Someone in the car fired several shots from an Airsoft pistol at another car, according to the Sheriff's Office. Airsoft guns shoot plastic BBs and other projectiles, but are designed to look like real firearms.

The car that was fired upon followed the other car, and they ended up at South Mill Creek Drive and Fabyan Parkway at about 3:30 p.m. Since police initially did not know the gun was an Airsoft pistol, two Geneva schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Fabyan Elementary School, which is located at Mill Creek and Fabyan, was on lockdown for fewer than 15 minutes, according to a Geneva School District 304 press release. Geneva Middle School North and Geneva Middle School South were on lockdown for several minutes.

"Because the schools were in lockdown, all doors were closed and locked, and staff, parents and students were not allowed to leave the buildings," the release said.

The situation was controlled and the lockdown order lifted at about 3:45 p.m. Monday.
