2 Children Taken to Hospital After Dec. 26 Accident at Kirk and Fabyan

Accident Reports: Drivers disagree over the color of the traffic lights at the time of the crash in which an 11-year-old and 9-year-old were injured.

Two children were taken to Delnor Hospital after an accident the day after Christmas at the intersection of East Fabyan Parkway and South Kirk Road, Geneva police reports said.

The passenger side of a Ford Windstar driven by Griselda Ugalde, 38, of Aurora collided with the front of a Honda Element driven by Jessica Klaibor, 26, of Winfield around 5:05 p.m. Dec. 26.

According to the narrative, Ugalde and her three passengers were traveling west on East Fabyan Parkway and turned left onto southbound South Kirk Road, while Klaibor’s Honda was traveling east in the inside lane of East Fabyan Parkway.

Ugalde told police the arrow was yellow when she attempted to stop the vehicle, skidded, then attempted the left turn. Klaibor told police she had a solid green light when she entered the intersection.

Ugalde was charged with failure to yield turning left. Two of her passengers, 11-year-old Ivette Ugalde and 9-year-old Ashley Ugalde were taken to Delnor Hospital by Batavia Medic 52. A third passenger, 7-year-old Alyssa Ugalde, refused treatment.
