2 Charged With Smashing City of Batavia Cement Can Through Business' Front Door

Two West Chicago men are facing felony charges for allegedly rolling a cement city-of-Batavia garbage can through a glass storefront door.
The Batavia Police Department issued a press release Tuesday saying Edgar R. Aguilar, 24, and Roberto Gonzalez, 23, each have been charged with one felony count of criminal damage to government property over $500 and one felony count of criminal damage to property over $300.
According to the press release, the incident took place at around 12:11 a.m. Oct. 18, when officers responded to a report of damage to a business at 17. N. River St., the address listed for Instrument Exchange.
Officers found a large, cement garbage can smashed through the front door of the business. Investigation revealed that the garbage can was property of the city of Batavia and had been rolled down the pedestrian stairs of the city's parking garage before it was rammed through the door of the business.
Damage to city property includes the parking deck stairs as well as the garbage container.
Aguilar and Gonzalez posted bond and have a court date of Dec. 17 at the Kane County Judicial Center, 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles.
