2 Cases: Possession of Alcohol by a Minor and Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

What's the difference between possession of alcohol by a minor and consumption of alcohol by a minor? In this case, an arrest and court appearance versus a citation and fine.

Here are the two items from the Geneva police blotter:

Illegal Possession of Alcohol by a Minor—Geneva police arrested Nicole Weisner, 19, of Geneva on charges of illegal possession of alcohol by a minor at around 9:32 p.m. March 14 at a home in the 800 block of Britta Lane, reports said. She has a court date of April 3 at the Kane County Branch Court, 530 S. Randall Road.
