2 Cars Ravaged By Vandals—One Likely Beaten by Baseball Bat, Another Coated in House Paint

Police reports: Separate incidents in blotter show that cars sometimes are the victims.

Who knows what the motives are for these types of crimes? Rage? Revenge? Jealousy? Just a little fun in the random destruction of property?

Whatever the reason, there were two uncommon acts of violence against vehicles in this week's police blotter—one in an employee parking lot and another in a city parking lot here in Geneva.

Criminal Damage to Property Over $500—Someone punctured the sidewall on all four tires and shattered the rear window of a Subaru parked in the employee parking lot of Houghton Mifflin, 1900 Batavia Ave., sometime between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Aug. 19, reports said. “It appeared that the offender shattered the window by hitting it with a baseball bat and throwing a brick through it,” reports said.

Criminal Damage to Property Over $500—Someone threw off-white house paint on the side of an Acura TL parked in the municipal lot at 605 S. First St. sometime prior to 7 a.m. Aug. 22, reports said. Police responded to a call of criminal damage to a vehicle on Aug. 22 and found the car “that appeared to be covered in house paint.” No report was filed and police attempts to find the owner came up empty. The vehicle had University of Illinois registration, according to reports.
