19-Year-Old Cited After Car Goes Out of Control in Downtown Geneva

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two Geneva police reports were filed about a runaway car that lost control on Fargo Boulevard and again on West State Street, where it struck a curb and went airborn and eventually was found abandoned on Fourth Street.

Geneva police cited Marianne Murdock, 19, of Geneva for leaving the scene of an accident, failure to leave notice of damage and driving an uninsured vehicle after driving her car off the road at least twice on April 23.

The first police report said Murdock was traveling south in the 2100 block of Fargo Boulevard about 30 feet north of St. Andrews Circle at around 2:45 p.m., when a witness saw her lose control of her Chevrolet Malibu, spinning the car 180 degrees before striking a parkway tree in front of 2197 Fargo with its front bumper. After the collision, the driver drove the vehicle south on Fargo Boulevard, reports said.

A second report said Murdock drove the Malibu off the road around 2:52 p.m. April 23 in the 1200 block of West State Street about 100 feet west of Logan Avenue, reports said.

A witness travelling west in the curb lane of 1100 West State told police he saw a Chevrolet Malibu traveling east on West State at a high rate of speed, strike the eastbound curb and go airborne. The driver of the Malibu, later identified as Murdock, crossed four lanes of traffic and ended up in front of the witness’ vehicle, and subsequently lost its bumper.

The witness was able to stop in time to avoid contact, and the Malibu continued east, reports said.

The Malibu was found parked and unattended in the 0-99 block of north Fourth Street and was towed.

Murdock has a court date of June 5, according to the police reports.
