1 Dead, 2 Hurt in Campton Township Crash

Authorities say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and struck a tree on Empire Road near Kings Wood Road.

Authorities are investigating a one-car crash that killed a Hoffman Estates man and injured two others Thursday morning, shortly after midnight, on Empire Road, west of Kings Wood Road, in unincorporated Campton Township.

Driver Dustin Jordan, 24, of Hoffman Estates, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Eric Wiechart, also 24, of Carol Stream, who was the front-seat passenger, was airlifted from the crash scene and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. Vetalik Lord, 25, of St Charles, who authorities said was the back-seat passenger, was transported with minor injuries to .

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office, in a release issued later Thursday morning, said its initial investigation indicates that the 2007 Nissan Altima Jordan was driving was westbound on Empire at a high rate of speed when, for an unknown reason, it left the roadway on the north near Kings Wood Road and struck a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have not determined that alcohol played a role in this crash, the release states. Kane County Sheriff’s Detectives and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing to investigate this crash. Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Campton Hills police and the Kane County Office of Emergency Management.
