Think Green! And Eat Pasta for Posies

The sixth annual fund-raiser on Wednesday will help beautify Geneva for much of the year.

With the official start of spring just a few weeks away, there’s no better time to think about the beauty about to unfold across Geneva: green plants, green grass, green trees—and green, as in dollars—to bring beautiful flowers to downtown Geneva.

Wednesday is day, the annual (this is the sixth!) Geneva Beautification Committee Spaghetti Supper fundraiser. The supper will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Riverview Banquets, 1117 N. Washington Ave., Batavia (the former Knights of Columbus building on Route 25, just south of Fabyan Parkway, by the Fox River.)

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger if purchased in advance and $12 and $6 at the door.

What does that get you? Spaghetti (all you can eat!) with meat or marinara sauce, tossed salad, Italian bread, butter, olive oil and vinegar and an assortment of desserts, many of them homemade by volunteers, plus coffee, tea, water and milk. A cash bar is available.

Conscious of Mother Earth, the meal will be offered using recyclable dinnerware (and take-out is available.)

There’s more, including a 50-50 raffle, plus five prize drawings to be held during the evening. Want goodies to take home? A bake sale debuts during this year’s event, featuring dessert recipes from the Geneva Beautification Cookbook, which will be available for purchase.

Local gardening expert Mary Stavenhagen will give a talk at 6:30 p.m., “It IS Easy Being Green,” followed by time for questions. She’ll give advice on recycling in the garden and using money wisely with respect to people’s yards and conservation.

And what does this get the committee and the community? Money to help fund the beautiful flowers and plants that adorn most downtown intersections. Yes, volunteers tend the beds and knuckles. But there have to be plants first, and Pasta for Posies helps buy them.

Tickets are available at the 8 S. Third St.; , 22 S. First St.; , 113 S. Third St.; , 318 S. Third St.; , 315 James St.; , 415 W. State St.; and , 617 W. State St.; or by calling Sherri Weitl at 630-232-7494.

Want to help beautify Geneva but can’t attend the spaghetti dinner? Cash contributions are always welcome to help purchase needed plants and materials. Tax-deductible donations may be sent to Geneva Beautification, care of Geneva City Hall, 22 S. First St.
