Patch’s Tavern: Blue Brie Cheese Plate and Chocolate Martini

Bringing the Red Carpet home!

Oscar night is Sunday, and it's practically a holiday for many people.

It’s a night thousands of movie fans across the country celebrate and host parties. The key to a good Oscar party is to have a good mix of fabulous foods and cocktails. Your goal should be to serve delicious food and drink without spending hours sweating it out in the kitchen. Patch has you covered with an easy and quick appetizer recipe and cocktail idea.

Blue Brie Cheese is a Danish brie cheese that is classified as a blue cheese. The Blue Brie is made as a double cream cheese (from cow's milk). This cheese is soft textured with a mild tangy flavor, and like brie, soft and creamy with an edible white-mold rind. The Caramel Pecan topping with cranberries, craisins and apricots, is piled high on the cheese.

This Chocolate Martini is pure decadence and sinfully delicious. I first tasted this type of cocktail in a neighborhood pub and was very impressed. I searched for the perfect recipe and this is it! This recipe is restaurant quality martini. Now of course everyone’s taste buds are not quite the same, so if you have a special twist or version of making a chocolate martini please feel free to make a comment. For the kids make a mocktail (non-alcoholic drink recipe) using only chocolate milk, but don’t forget to line the glass with chocolate syrup and of course the marshmallows for garnishment. .

I give this Academy Award winning Blue Brie Cheese Plate and Chocolate Martini recipe "Two thumbs up!" You can find many of the ingredients at your local , and of course specialty cheese stories like and .

Enjoy the Oscars and Happy Eating!

And the Recipes Are:

*****Blue Brie Cheese Plate*****

  • 1 12 oz Blue Brie Cheese wheel (I used Saga brand.)
  • ½ pound Caramel Pecan Topping from Wegmans (If you're not able to find it at the store, recipe is below.)

Place cheese out for four hours to soften. Leave rind on and place topping on top of cheese wheel and serve with your favorite crackers.

***** Carmel Pecan Topping*****

  • 1 cup caramel ice cream topping
  • ¼ cup pecans, chopped
  • ¼ cup dried cranberries
  • ¼ cup craisins
  • ¼ cup dried apricots

In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Spread on cheese. Serve immediately.

*****Chocolate Martini*****

  • 1 ½ ozs Godiva original chocolate liqueur
  • 1 ½ ozs creme de cacao
  • ½  oz vodka or vanilla vodka
  • 2 ½ ozs half-and-half or milk
  • chocolate syrup (line the glass)
  • mini marshmallows (optional)

Mix all ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake. Take chocolate syrup and drizzle the inside of a chilled martini glass. Pour mixture into glass and garnish with mini marshmallows. This makes one martini, if you would like to make more, just multiply the ingredients.

Please drink and drive responsibly.

I'm rooting for "The Help". What are you rooting for?

I also liked The Help, but I vote for the Descendants, BTW, great martini.
