Patch Poll: Battle of the Geneva Gelatos!

This is a contest you have to sample for yourself. What will it be: the Pumpkin Spice Gelato at the All Chocolate Kitchen or the Apple Pie Gelato at 318 Coffeehouse? You decide.

When we asked for nominations for the , we received some wonderful suggestions in the comment field.

Two of the entries were the clear winners with multiple votes, and they both happen to be gelatos! With an alliteration like "Geneva gelato," we knew there was a special Patch poll in the works, which is exciting, but left only one question.

What the heck is a gelato?

According to Wikipedia, "gelato is the Italian word for ice cream and sorbet. Italians use the word gelato to mean a sweet treat that is served frozen."

So now, it's your turn to try these great gelatos, and let us know which is the best. The nominees for Best Geneva Gelato are:

  • The Pumpkin Spice Geleto from the .
  • The Apple Cider Gelato from .

Here are the rules: Voting starts now and goes until 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21. Geneva Patch will count 1 point for each vote and 5 points for each comment. So you can really make hay by voting for your favorite and leaving a comment that describes the experience. (Make sure to mention the name of the business in your comment.)

May the best Geneva gelato win.

There's plenty of room in Geneva for both All Chocolate Kitchen and Graham's 318. Sometimes the decision is as simple as which establishment you're closer to at a given moment. Vive (and by golly, enjoy) la difference!

Graham's 318 for me! Best part of our year in Geneva: Graham's!
Jason Smith October 18, 2011 at 12:08 PM
To be honest. there is only one place i go for the best Italian coffee and that is All Chocolate Kitchen. But Their Pumpkin Gelato Kicks butt too! It is so authentic its un real.
Stephanie Davis October 18, 2011 at 01:38 PM
All Chocolate Kitchen is the reason I wake up in the morning! I love their Pumpkin Spice Gelato!
Rebecca Bent October 18, 2011 at 01:45 PM
This is such a stupid reason to make tension in the community but I will have to say that All Chocolate Kitchen's Gelato is great! It really has made the Geneva Area a destination.
Tom Busen October 18, 2011 at 01:52 PM
How is this even a question? We have the honor of having a famous chef in our town and he creates the best Gelato ever! But i am disappointment that this would be something it came down to. All Chocolate kitchen and Grahams should not have to "Battle" to claim their talents. This is just another way media messes with peoples minds. Anyway. I vote All chocolate Kitchen's pumpkin spice Gelato.

Having lived in France for most of my life, I understand the concept and authenticity of Gelato. I think that All Chocolate Kitchen's gelato brings me back home to France. This is the real deal! I vote Pumpkin spice All chocolate Kitchen

WOW. this is just so pathetic this is splitting the town apart. Can people each have their own favorites without creating a divided community? All Chocolate Kitchen is a great addition and grahams is nice to. All Chocolate Kitchens quality surpasses Grahams but it doesnt mean that we have to be judging them like this. All Chocolate Kitchen gets my vote. But Patch really should be cautious prior to starting something like this.

mmm I LOVE Graham's 318!!! Wish I could have some of their amazing espresso and gelato now!!
Jeff Shurts October 18, 2011 at 02:36 PM
I became a fan of affogato (gelato with espresso poured over it) at 318. I'm an affogato regular. Just tried one at the All Chocolate Kitchen for the first time, and I'm a convert. The gelato was creamier, I got a larger scoop, and the espresso was more plentiful (2 shots; most of the time at 318 I get one).

Geneva is lucky to have both Grahams and All Chocolate Kitchen. But All Chocolate Kitchens atmosphere and products are absolutely delicious! I really do enjoy having my cup of coffee and their Gelato on a sunday morning.

I'm a huge fan of all things Grahams! Everything they make is truly the best I've ever tasted, including their gelato! Grahams is also very involved in the community, and has had roots in the area for decades. My vote goes to Grahams!

Im ACK fan to the end! This place has made such a large impact to the Geneva Area with their amazing products and customer service. Gelato is good but All Chocolate Kitchens Gelato is the best I would say in the Chicago Area! Steve dolinsky from channel 7 apparently came their as well, that must be saying something!

hahah saw this one coming from a mile away. Just a matter of time for a poll like this to come out. I hate to pick sides but All Chocolate Kitchen has stepped up to the plate and really hit a home run. Adding such a great asset to Geneva. Love their Pumpkin spice gelato!

Grahams-- You had me at Gelato! This place takes the prize in my book. Keep up the good work!
Angie October 18, 2011 at 04:15 PM

Hello ACK Fans, and Grahams 318 fans I am sure you are aware of the recent poll posted by Geneva Patch regarding ACK and Grahams 318. The poll is called “The Battle of Gelatos” We ask that you do not vote for us because we do not want to participate in something that is dividing the community. Patch.com having an inaccurate and biased polling system will not prove anything regarding who has the better product or store. Battling for Gelato? Life is to short to battle for dessert. Geneva as a community battles the tough economy, battles cancer, battles child heart defects, and battles negative media. What benefit does a poll like this produce? Nothing, instead it produces animosity towards each other and an unneeded rivalry. I do not need to have a web blog determine who has what and who is better. Grahams is a family business and so are we. Patch.com should not have created this tension and rivalry just to have “hits” on the page. The media is turning everyone against another. Take the time to just enjoy a cup of Gelato from either end of town. There is plenty of space for the both of us. We just want to ensure everyone enjoys our product in the community we live in.
So ACK fans we ask of you to no longer Participate in the “Battle Of Gelato” and let Grahams take the win. We do not want to take part in this involuntary poll and wish them the best in their future. We thank you for your support I mean I just want to make some Gelato guys.... Merci Chef Roby

Love, love, love Graham's 318 coffeehouse gelato! The apple cider gelato is a fall must have. Just thinking about it I can taste the perfect combination of apple, tart, sweet & cold... and the texture is so smooth and creamy!
Christopher Cudworth October 18, 2011 at 08:58 PM
Me like gelato, Mr. Roboto. And I hear he's serving at Graham's.
Liz October 18, 2011 at 09:06 PM
Graham's makes the best gelato, in Geneva and elsewhere!
Mallory Gigl October 18, 2011 at 09:29 PM
Graham's 318! has the best apple cider gelato. along with other great fall treats!
Jody Wendt October 18, 2011 at 09:35 PM
I love Grahams 318 Apple Cider gelato in the fall and their Lemoncello in the spring. Divine :)
Karl Schreiber October 18, 2011 at 11:46 PM
Graham's 318 is where it's at! I attended a wedding where the dessert was catered by Graham's and it was incredible.
Sharon H October 18, 2011 at 11:50 PM
First world problem.
Mary Frankenthal October 19, 2011 at 01:17 AM
Dear Chef Roby.......You clearly missed the point on the opportunity for some free advertising! Our little town is not so petty that we could possibly be divided by something as silly as Gelato! Take a big deep breath and relax and enjoy all the foot traffic you will be enjoying due to the fact that the name of your establishment does not reflect all the great things you have to offer.....such as your amazing gelato! Grahams is an institution in town and also has those fabulous windows that outsiders can glance in to while strolling by and see that they make chocolate. Your establishment isn't as fortunate, but just as good. So calm yourself down and enjoy the publicity!
Justin Eggar October 19, 2011 at 07:52 PM
Some of those comments are a bit weird. Either which way... the poll isn't really fair seeing as G318 is an institution here. Rightly so, Katlyn and I are there all the time. We like the relaxed ambiance and the coffee is always delish. I think the quality of chocolate and coffee at ACK is very high. That said, and we were just discussing this... they should have put in leather booths along one side and then had some additional bar area. Anyways, all said and done... both are fun places that offer their customers something different. I have my favorite location (and likely always will), but have enjoyed both. I haven't tried ACK's pumpkin gelato so I have to refrain from voting :)

Graham's gelato is amazing, as is their chocolate (and their attitude)
Patty October 21, 2011 at 04:05 AM
Grahams 318 is the best.
