Beth Bales: Get Tickets Now for 'Dancing'

Approximately 15 to 20 reservations remain for the Feb. 4 "Dancing with the Geneva Stars" event. And that's not the only dance in town! The Geneva Park District has dances on tap, as well.

There still are some tickets remaining to the upcoming “Dancing With the Geneva Stars” fund-raiser, according to Carolyn Hill of the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission, and coordinator of all things DWTGS.

As of Tuesday afternoon, approximately 15 to 20 reservations remained available for the Feb. 4 event, during which six Geneva couples () will dance to raise money for the commission and for the Geneva Academic Foundation. Each couple has learned, courtesy of State Street Dance Studio, a dance routine to be performed that evening.

Reservations are due in the next few days, as Hill needs to turn in the final number of reservations to Eagle Brook Country Club this weekend.

On that night, the cash bar will open at 6 p.m., with the hors d’oeuvre buffet opening at 6:30 p.m. Ballroom doors open at 7 p.m—and the rush for seating will begin. While some people paid extra for reserved tables, the majority did not, and it’s first-come, first-served for the open seating.

“People with open seating will want to get to Eagle Brook (2288 Fargo Boulevard, Geneva) before 7, so they can pick a table, especially if they are coming with a group,” Hill said. There are tables for eight, tables for 10 and a few high-top tables for two people. People coming with a group and entering at 7 p.m. should be able to get seating together or hold chairs for the rest of the group, she added.

Valet parking service is $5, paid directly to the valet service, and begins at 6 p.m. as well.

And online voting will continue until Feb. 3, she said.

“Dancing with the Geneva Stars” is by no means the only dance in town!

There’s another big Geneva dance coming up: the hugely popular Geneva Park District “Just Dad ‘n Me Dance” for all dads and daughters, for ages “3 to 99,” according to the Park District. Cost is $10 for a resident dad and $10 for a resident daughter; non-residents pay $15 each. Fathers and their girls must register separately.

It’s an evening not just of dancing, entertainment and refreshments, but also precious memories. And to keep those memories alive, each family receives a keepsake photograph.

The dance will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at .

And by the way, moms and sons aren’t forgotten. The district has added a new “Mom ‘n’ Son Night” for ages 4 to 99, from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 10, also at GHS. Much as the Daddy-Daughter event, the Mom-Son evening features dancing and snacks and refreshments. If a mom can’t attends, aunts, grandmas or big sisters are welcome to step in. And of course moms with more than one son are welcome to bring them all. Cost is $10 for a resident dad and $10 for a resident daughter; non-reisdents pay $15 each.

All in all, it’s time to lace up those dancing shoes and get moving.
