Geneva/Mill Creek Property Tax increase?

Just bought a house in Mill Creek in October 2013, and were told the taxes were $8500 for 2012. Just got our 2013 tax bill in the mail, and it went up $1100 (13%). 

We bought our house for $300k, and have approx 0.30 acre lot. Any ideas why it went up? What are others out there with similar house values/specs paying? It seems like it skyrocketed, and the school district receives most of the money.
