Coyotes on the West side--please beware!!
After several sightings (more than we can count or care to remember) of coyotes in the day and night, after a brutal attack on our dog in our backyard, and after a meeting with the mayor who simply restated the 'city policy' to co-exist with coyotes...this is an email I received from my neighbor this morning. I felt the need to share it with everyone because aggression toward humans crosses the line and something needs to be done. We should be able to live in our yards, walk our dogs, and let our children play without being afraid. Please be aware..for your pets, kids and your own safety, and let the city council know that something needs to change.
The email I was sent last night: I just took Jessie for a walk and did the route past the school to Fisher Drive North then West on the road that goes to the baseball fields. As I took the curved path around the outfield I had two coyotes not only try to get Jessie, but they circled me and nipped at my heels. I was holding Jessie up by my chest and trying to charge and yell at one of them…but the other one would then come up behind me. Poor Jessie was just as scared of me as she was of them because I don’t think she ever heard anyone yell that loud. If I had left her on the leash and not picked her up, I am pretty sure I would have lost her. I called 9-1-1 as soon as I got home and let them know the coyotes were not just aggressive to my dog but to me as well.
