Tri-Cities Death Notices: a Geneva 17-Year-Old, a Fermi Technician, a Well-Driller, a Beloved World Traveler

Remembrances and links to the obituaries of Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles folks who passed away, for the week prior to Aug. 6, 2013.

  • Kathleen M. Malley, 64, of Aurora, enjoyed singing and doing crossword puzzles. She was an avid sports fan and particularly loved football and basketball. But her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

  • Judith Lhotka Kuhny, 77, of Geneva, was a beloved wife to Donald, dear mother to Mary Kim Kuhny, Victoria (Gary) Gregus, Maureen (David) Nielsen, David (Dawn) Kuhny, Michael (Wendy) Kuhny, T.J. (Louise) Kuhny, Jennifer Wilczak, cherished grandmother to 19, and great-grandmother of two.
  • Dorothy M. Olson, was the beloved wife of 55 years to Richard Olson, loving mother to daughter Laura and son David (Amy) and devoted Grandmother to Jack and Matthew. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her spirit, generosity and wit.
  • Blanche Ione Johnson, 84, of Roach, MO, was a long time residents of St. Charles before retiring to a beautiful log home on the Lake of the Ozarks. Blanche was a talented cook and seamstress. She was adventurous when it came to the culinary arts and taught herself to cook exotic dishes from Asia and Europe. Blanche read cookbooks as though they were novels. She sewed for her children and grandchildren throughout her life. Halloween costumes, prom dresses and special occasion clothes are part of the cherished memories created by Blanche.
  • Walter “Bud” J. Tiskus III, 53, of South Elgin, worked in the IT department for ADP in Hoffman Estates for the past 11 years. He was a “Jack of all trades, and a Master of them all!” Whatever he set his mind to he mastered, Walter had many hobbies which included: his motorcycle, woodworking, fishing, metal detecting, horticulture, gardening, tennis, photography, antiques, computer gaming, pool and billiards, chess, coffee roasting, skiing and scuba diving.

  • Harry Clifford Neely, 87, of Elburn served the United States Navy during WWII active in the Pacific. He was a member of the Batavia Masonic Lodge 404, American Legion, Elburn Lions Club, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Batavia Shriners and Shriners International. Harry loved to work drilling water wells in the Northern Illinois area. Side by side in their 60 years of business and marriage Harry would hold Donna's hand during walks, bring her flowers and candy, enjoyed their home in Elburn but traveled the U.S. in their motor-home, spending winters in Florida, deep sea fishing and hunting, fondly spoke of long frequent trips to Europe, Hawaii and Africa watching wildlife being thrilled by leopard along with the lions on the prowl, Australia, China, riding elephants in Thailand plus, as an avid war history buff lived his long time dream sailing the Volga River and visiting the Hermitage in Russia.

  • Wade V. Muranyi, 49, of Aurora was raised, lived, and worked his entire life in Kane County. He was most recently employed at Fermilab as a senior technician for almost 15 years. He was an avid fisherman and a master griller. Wade was known and loved by hundreds of people.  He always put the well being of others ahead of himself. He was a family man who loved nothing more than spending time with his family.
  • Joshua Martin Sweet, 17, of Geneva, was an athletic guy. He played football for seven years with the Tri-City Chargers Youth Football League. He also played football in middle school at Geneva North before playing for three years at Geneva High School. He was slated to play at defensive end this year for the Vikings. His favorite sport, however, was lacrosse. He’s played since he was a freshman in high school for the Geneva High School club team. He also played the last two summers with the New Wave Summer Travel Team. He was active in Christ Community Church where he was involved with the Kids World Tech Team for the last six years. He was also active in several youth ministries through the church. Josh was very generous with his time. He volunteered in several organizations, including Geneva All Sports Booster, Marklund, and Tri-City Chargers. He liked to hang out with friends and play video games, especially X-Box.
