Tri-Cities Death Notices: A Phillips 66 Owner, Teachers, Veterans, Cubs Fans and a Spiritual Director

Here is a brief description and links to funeral arrangements for loved ones from St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia.

Malone Funeral Home

  • Diane M. Ladenberger, 63, of Geneva found great joy in spending time with her family. 
  • Florence Agnes Slezak, 89, of Batavia, formerly of Downers Grove loved raising her children and spending time with her family. 
  • Francis William Raymond Pelman, 88, of St. Charles called Mooseheart his home after the death of his parents until his graduation from high school in 1942. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1946. Shortly thereafter, he met and married his lovely wife, Rosalind, whom he faithfully loved and cherished for over 64 years. He enjoyed his career as a CPA — especially serving his clients until he retired earlier this year.
  • William "Bill" Joseph Mahoney, 93, of St. Charles continued a long family history of employment with General Mills by beginning his own career at age 17 as a sweeper in the flour mill. He proudly served his country with the United States Army Air Force, and one of the highlights of Bill's life was meeting and working alongside his fellow employees at General Mills in Minneapolis, where he served as director of operations for the Sperry Division.
  • Charles A. “Chic” Williams, 67, of Geneva and Rockford began teaching at Geneva High School in 1969 and became a strong influence and guide for his students. Besides teaching English, Chic coached the debate team, he directed a number of plays and coached the varsity baseball team and eventually moved into the position of Dean of Students at Geneva High School. Chic established and ran the Community Intervention Program for Geneva and Kane County working with at-risk children. He became a certified alcohol/drug counselor and eventually founded his own consulting firm working with at-risk children and their families. 

Yurs Funeral Home 

  • Bernadette Marie (nee Goss) taught kindergarten and primary grades in many different Chicago Public Schools over a period of more than 30 years. After retiring from teaching she worked for many years in retailing at numerous department stores. She loved gardening and inculcated that love in her children.
  • Babara F. Pinkerton's visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. May 9 with a funeral service at 7 p.m. at Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles.
  • Raymond James Gore, 71, of Plano, formerly of Elk Grove Village was employed by Inland Steel in Chicago for more than 30 years and was a life-long Cubs fan, a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. His family and friends will miss the humor he brought to any situation, his smile, and his unselfish nature.
  • Kent A. Grayson, 77, of St. Charles formerly of Glen Ellyn, was born in Chicago in 1936, grew up on the north side (Portage Park) and graduated from Illinois College in 1957. Kent spent his career as a salesman.
  • Dennis E. Klein, 76, formerly of St. Charles, is survived by his three children, 10 grandchildren and many friends and family members. Graveside services will be private at St. Isadore Cemetery in Bloomingdale.

 

Moss Funeral Home

  • Floyd Sampson, 86, died Friday, May 3, 2013 with his family at his side at his residence in Batavia. He was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Aurora, the son of Raynard and Maude (nee Leland) Sampson and was united in marriage to Ruth Marie Mungerson on June 22, 1946, in St. Charles, IL.
  • John J. Lally, 88, of Batavia owned and operated the Phillips 66 service station in West Chicago for many years. Following retirement, he worked as a ranger at the Orchard Valley Golf Club in Aurora. John had a passion for sports; to participate himself, to coach or to just cheer on his favorite teams Notre Dame, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks.  He played softball for many years in Batavia for the Remsnyder’s team and coached the Holy Cross School basketball team and spent many years coaching youth baseball in Batavia.
  • Diane Regina Ramseth, 65, of North Aurora devoted her life raising her beloved children and her adored grandson.
  • Jane Ohslund Seagrentaught elementary school until the birth of her first child. She later obtained master's degrees and became a social worker at elementary schools in Aurora and Naperville. In 1989 she became certified as a Spiritual Director through a program affiliated with Loyola University, the Institute for Spiritual Leadership. Because of that training she found her most fulfilling vocation, giving companionship to others on their spiritual journey in several areas of ministry at Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia.
