Tri-Cities Death Notices, March 5, 2013

Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles lost some remarkable people in the past week. Here is a brief description along with links to their stories and funeral arrangements.

Malone Funeral Home, Geneva

  • James R. Doyle, 56, of Batavia loved hockey and spending time with family and friends.
  • Violet L (Novak) Ivan, 87 of Batavia found incredible joy in the time she spent with her family and close friends.

  • Jennie V. Castronovo, 92, of Schaumburg, formerly of St. Charles, formerly a vice president of OEM Products Company, enjoyed travelling, adventure and her many friends and family.
  • Mary F. Kearbey, 78, of Elburn, worked at the Howel Company and Dickey Manufacturing in St. Charles until she retired at age 65
  • Michael Daniel Fairbanks, 19, of St. Charles died suddenly on Feb. 26. He played the cello, sang in the Honors Choir and was a member of the Gay Straight Alliance. He was an avid outdoors-man and animal rights activist.
  • William Craig Thatcher, M.D., 69, of St. Charles, a former instructor in surgery at Loyola University Medical Center and founder of the Vein and Laser Center, was a compassionate doctor, loved and admired by patients and colleagues.

  • Merlyn F. Kadlec, 85, of North Aurora retired from Youssi and Youssi Law Firm in Batavia where she worked as a legal assistant.
  • Goldie A. Anderson, 100, of Yorkville, formerly of Batavia, where was affectionately known as the “cookie lady," as she delivered freshly baked cookies to various government offices throughout town.
  • Ernest R. Smith, 77, of St. Charles proudly served his country in the Air Force.
