Mary Bencini Will Be Remembered April 21 at Malone Funeral Home

The time and date for a visitation and service has been set for Mary Bencini, the Geneva teacher and community volunteer who died unexpectedly Saturday.

Friends throughout the Geneva community now have a day and time to express their sorrow for the loss and celebrate the joy of the life of longtime Geneva teacher and community volunteer Mary Bencini.

, April 7, after her car and crashed into the Pure Gardener building at 502 W. State St. Police said they suspect she died from a heart attack or other medical emergency “that apparently caused her to lose consciousness,” according to reports.

Bencini had been sick with stomach flu and might have been driving herself to the hospital, friends said.

She was very active as a teacher and community volunteer. She taught second grade at Western Avenue grade school, was a member of the Geneva History Center Board of Directors, the Geneva Academic Foundation and countless chairitable organizations.

She is a former Wood Award winner, perhaps Geneva's highest honor for community service.

A visitation for  is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Malone Funeral Home.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. that day at the funeral home.
