Geneva Death Notices: Community Mourns Lyle Hicks of Hicks Floor Covering, Many Others

  • Lyle G. Hicks, 94, of St. Charles, was a 1937 graduate of Batavia High School. He served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lyle shared 67 years of marriage with his loving wife, Marilyn (Roehlk). Lyle owned and operated Hicks Floor Covering in Geneva for more than 65 years. He worked with his sons, John and James. When they could, Lyle and Marilyn loved to go dancing. Lyle was a member of the Geneva American Legion, Batavia VFW, Moose Lodge, Masons and Shriners.

Yurs Funeral Homes

  • Betty J. Bastian, 84, of St. Charles, died Monday, Nov. 04, 2013, at Delnor Community Hospital Geneva. She was born March 3, 1929 in Fairmont, Nebraska. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda (John) Hanson, Randy (Larry) Salwolke, her son, James Bastian, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
  • Margaret Stover, 89, of Lily Lake, devoted her life to her family, whom she nourished and held dear to her, enjoying most the role of doting grandmother. When her children were all in school, she worked part-time for several years as a van driver for Central CUSD 301 special education students. But her passion was music, and she shared her gift as a musician with many, including the Congregational Church of Lily Lake, where she was an active member and played the organ for church services for nearly 70 years.
  • David Charles Weiss, 73, of St. Charles, passed away at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna (nee Laffey), two loving daughters, Cathleen (Brian) Germano and Pamela Lemp, and cherished granddaughters Julia and Haley Lemp and Jenna Germano. He was always a kind and caring man with an entertaining story to share with everyone.
