It's Showtime: Cultural Arts at Playhouse 38

Geneva Park District Launches new Cultural Arts Programs

Geneva Park District will introduce performing arts programs at its new Playhouse 38, the theatre space located at 524 W. State Street. The theatre will host a variety of programs year round for both children and adults. 

The summer production, Truckstop Chili, will kick off the season on June 24. This summer comedy focuses on the collision between Hollywood and hillbillies. “It is a definite must see”, said Mickey Boyle, Recreation Supervisor. 

The first round of auditions were held June 5 and 6, however there is still time to become part of this hilarious summer comedy. The second round of auditions will be held for ages 10-15 on Thursday, June 20 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  No experience is necessary; those who are interested are encouraged to call (630) 232-4542 to schedule their audition time slot.

Once cast, rehearsals for the 6-week production will be held June 24 – July 31 from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon at Playhouse 38. The cost is $270 for Geneva Park District residents and $290 for non-residents. Registration is available through the Geneva Park District.

The final performance is scheduled for August 1-3 at 7:00 p.m. with a matinee show at 3:00 p.m. on August 3. Tickets are $5 each and are available at Sunset Community Center, 710 Western Avenue.

Other summer programs include an audition workshop with personal coaching and other performing arts classes for youth. Additionally, this fall expect several new additions including adult classes, improv comedy, singing, acting, stage-makeup and more. 

“Through a variety of community feedback, we pulled together our resources to offer this exciting new program area, as well as, have a presence in downtown Geneva. The addition of a Cultural Arts program in Geneva fosters a multitude of benefits including: enhanced community, increased creativity, and educational value,” said Sheavoun Lambillotte, Executive Director.
