Mike Donahue: 41 Seek to Put METRA Back on Track, and Here's How the Process Works

Forty-one residents have submitted applications to be considered for Kane County's appointment to the anticipated opening on METRAs Board of Directors.

Applicants of every stripe from retail sales specialists, office managers, MBAs, lawyers, corporate CEOs, politicians, planners, engineers, and an actual locomotive engineer, have made their pitch to put METRA back on track. All tolled, 41 residents have submitted applications to be considered for Kane County’s appointment to the anticipated opening on METRA's Board of Directors.

Due to the heavy volume of applications, the task force assigned to evaluate them will be working over the weekend. Task force members Cathy Hurlbut of Elgin, Drew Frasz of Elburn, Jesse Vazquez of Montgomery, and myself, will use a 20-point system to rank all 41 candidates. The ranking system will award 1 to 5 points, with 5 being the highest (best) score, for each of the following criteria:

  • Strength of applicants’ appeal for consideration posed in the cover letter
  • Relevancy of applicants’ experience outlined in the resume
  • Evidence of participation or leadership in local and/or regional organizations
  • Evidence of geopolitical awareness and communication and interpersonal skills

The task force members were to required submit their evaluations to County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay by Monday, June 20. Composite scores will be tallied from the four independent evaluations to identify the top three candidates for interviews.
