Schaumburg Boomers Dining options more than just a hot dog and soda

The Schaumburg Boomers baseball club offers many dining options for the hard-core baseball fan or the casual one looking for a good night out.

I took in my first game as a fan with the new Schaumburg Boomers franchise Wednesday and it was quite an experience.

The day felt more like an early springtime afternoon rather than a day in late May with the air temperatures barely reaching above 65 degrees, but nevertheless it was a sun-splashed day for the most part.

The Boomers won the game, 6-3 behind a 2-for-3 day at the plate from infielder Andrew Cohn, erasing the memory of a tough 12-1 loss the day before.

Thousands of screaming sixth-graders from around the area schools littered the grandstands as they cheered every time a ball was hit out of the infield or the ballpark DJ would play a Sponge Bob Square Pants cut over the loud speaker. One school even created their own dancing line behind home plate once Carly Rae Jespen’s “Call Me Maybe” echoed throughout the ballpark.

Today was the day I also sampled the many dining options the Boomers had to offer, a far cry and a much better selection than what Schaumburg's former team ever offered.

First were the loaded nachos, from the Home Run Hacienda stand, located just behind the home plate area and down the first base line. The beefy nachos were a little spicy, I'm not going to lie, but they definitely hit the spot despite being an early afternoon snack.

Next came the infamous Schaumburger, the hamburger with a famous name but not yet a legend in the town it was created. For seven dollars, I received a 1/3 pound burger covered in numerous condiments and topped off by a pretzel bread bun. If you make one trip to the ballpark this season or multiple trips make sure that this burger is on your menu. It was definitely a mouthful, but worth the price.

From there, I unfortunately didn't save room for dessert, but enjoyed the rest of the game and the afternoon for what is was worth.

So if you're looking for affordable family fun this summer, or want to take that special someone out on a dinner date, the Schaumburg Boomer have what you're looking for and the dining pleasures to back it up.
