My opponent for mayor of Geneva states on his campaign website the following:
Complete transparency: The role of the mayor and city council is to provide department heads with strong policy direction empowering them to make day-to-day decisions. All operations of the city, especially financial, need to be posted on the city website.
I couldn't agree more.
I'm proud to report to my opponent and the citizens and businesses of Geneva that all city of Geneva invoices are available online when the City Council packet is released and said financial information remains online for a period of approximately two weeks for anyone and everyone to inspect.
When when a motion is offered to recommend bills for payment, the alderman making the motion states "... to pay the bills as presented in the City Council packet and posed on the city's website."
The city of Geneva implemented this practice many years ago. Because it's fashionable to do so? No, because it's the right thing to do.
Moreover, the entire city of Geneva budget is also online for inspection. All 300 pages are presented in a way that effectively communicates the goals and objectives of each department and summarizes the budgetary impact of each.
So, in the spirit of transparency, I'm proud to say that the city of Geneva is virtually see-through.
Indeed, transparency is important. As mayor, I have worked with the City Council and professional staff to enact policies that provide more information, more frequently, more conveniently and more exhaustively than any previous administration.
And, I will continue to do so.
My best,
