Isn't this just really over the top when it comes to running for a county position? How much did this cost?
Karl Brubaker January 12, 2012 at 02:20 AM
From http://www.elections.il.gov/ConsolidatedSearch.aspx?FirstName=kevin&LastName=burns Shodeen Shodeen Boose (B & B Homes) Donahue Donahue Can't find the Redspeed donations yet....... Please, don't let Kev drive the bus.
John Anderson January 12, 2012 at 03:03 PM
Well, "Lois," my guess is the bus is leased. And for comparison the mail pieces that candidates love to do cost tens of thousands each mailing. Then there's the yard signs, buttons, stickers, etc.
John Anderson January 12, 2012 at 03:11 PM
Hey Karl, you forgot "Friends of Lauzen"... Dave Rickert (County Treasurer) $5,000 (what's he angling for?) Debts fro this campain: $26,000 Debt from Congressional campaign: $80,000 Etc. etc.
Bob McQuillan January 12, 2012 at 04:10 PM
the "wrap" for the bus cost $7,000 http://www.elections.il.gov/CampaignDisclosure/ItemizedExpend.aspx?FiledDocID=452080&ExpenditureType=Expenditures&Archived=True&OrderBy=LastorOnlyName-AtoZ&ItemizedExpendFrom=D2Quarterly.aspx Check out the in-kind donations and contributions http://www.elections.il.gov/CampaignDisclosure/ItemizedContrib.aspx?FiledDocID=452080&ContributionType=In-Kind+Contributions&Archived=True&OrderBy=LastorOnlyName-AtoZ&ItemizedContribFrom=D2Quarterly.aspx http://www.elections.il.gov/CampaignDisclosure/ItemizedContrib.aspx?FiledDocID=452080&ContributionType=Individual+Contributions&Archived=True&OrderBy=LastorOnlyName-AtoZ&ItemizedContribFrom=D2Quarterly.aspx I just love knowing the FACTS
Bob McQuillan January 12, 2012 at 04:22 PM
Hey John Anderson You forgot to add Mike Donahue $6,000 Kane County Board member Others named Donahue @$700 Companies or Individuals associated with companies at least $15,600 Contributions from Kevin Burns himself $0.00 (see links in above comment) The voters aren't in the dark anymore. The old "rumors" won't work. Just the FACTS and only the FACTS! Are you saying Mayor Burns will not send any of those lovely postcards? How do you know that? Is that FACT? What am I going to use to start you fires since firepits are ok in Geneva?? By the way, that $106,000 in debt is owed to Mr. Lauzen. See most candidates loan their campaigns money. Mayor has done that, instead someone is knocking on corporate doors for him. Them there are the FACTS
Bob McQuillan January 12, 2012 at 04:24 PM
Mayor has done that... sorry might to say Mayor Burns hasn't done that
Bob McQuillan January 12, 2012 at 04:25 PM
meant to say "meant" Boy this snow is doing crazy thing with my spelling. At least the comment number looks big!!
Karl Brubaker January 12, 2012 at 06:38 PM
John, I didn't forget. Your partisan is showing. If this article was concerning "Lauzen's Bus" I certainly would comment on it. But it's not. I'm sure there will be some Lauzen campaign information out soon. Let's see if you bring up Kev's contributors in that article. I have no love for either candidate but Burns' love of red light cameras soured me even further. That being said- your concerns about donations to the Lauzen camp are completely understandable. Thanks for pointing them out.
Justin Eggar January 12, 2012 at 09:38 PM
It's interesting... a month ago people were knocking Burns for not having enough donations. Now we're knocking him for spending money he received from donations. Bob, I hate to say it... but very little in this life is fact. Your posts contain tidbits that are fact, but it's presented subjectively. I'm not complaining about you doing that, we're human, we all do it. But, stating Fact frequently in a subjective setting just seems off to me. On a side note, I haven't used that site before. Has Lauzen really received $3,384,445.63 expenditures in his time in politics? It's expensive to represent the people in this country!
Bob McQuillan January 12, 2012 at 09:48 PM
Justin My information comes the website for the Illinois State Board of Elections and is the official filing required of all candidates for all contributions & expenses as of 12/31/11, There is no subjectivity to it. It is FACT, if not the filing is in error and subject to penalities. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the filing is wrong. As to the question about Senator Lauzen, I don't speak for the Senator, but that information can be found on the same website under his campaign committee's name. You could also probably call his committee office and ask them.
Justin Eggar January 12, 2012 at 09:52 PM
Karl - just to put this out there, everybody's partisanship is showing. There have been multiple articles on Lauzen posted I don't recall you taking him to task (but, let me go check to make sure). I don't care who you vote for... that is wholly your business. Crying wolf over somebody being partisan when we all are is disingenuous. That said, I do dislike red lights (due to safety concerns) and can understand that bothering you.
Justin Eggar January 12, 2012 at 10:16 PM
You're 100% correct Bob. I'm not doubting the veracity of the data, I'm sure it's spot on. My point is more along the lines of "posting only things that show your side of the story and are not objective trivializes the usage of FACT". For instance, I could say the following: "FACT: Blagojevich once walked a lady across the road. That was so nice of him, we should vote for him." Does that make him a nice person? Should we then expect him to be a good candidate for office? My showing a little factoid in a manner that represents my own biases doesn't mean that it summarizes an accurate view of something. By the way, the web site you gave me showed Lauzen's PAC receipts to be: $3,384,445.63 You had an issue with speaking to that, but you didn't have an issue speaking for Burn's numbers (and you don't "speak" for him either). The point I am trying to make is... we all have our own opinions on this stuff. Trying to state one side of it as fact without full and accurate disclosure is just pulling the wool over someones eyes. And, I don't think either of us wants that.
Bob McQuillan January 12, 2012 at 10:39 PM
Justin Your analogy about Blago sucks and doesn't pertain to this article. Someone had already stated Lauzen's campaign information and I posted the other side of the story. Your words, not mine "Trying to state one side of it as fact without full and accurate disclosure is just pulling the wool over someones eyes." Your comment should be directed to John & Karl not me. Inaccurate information was posted and I posted full factual information about the subject of this article, Kevin Burns and his campaign to be the next Kane County Board Chairperson. To your comment about Senator Lauzen's expenses, you did not post all of the information just a total number. That is exactly what you wrote was the wrong thing to do. I didn't respond to the number because I don't have the time to look at 20 years worth of information. Looking at current relevation information to the Kane County Chairperson's race is the correct thing to do. If you want to write an article about Senator Lauzen and his campaign, you are well to do that and everyone is welcome to respond to that article. You can go back & forth all you want, if you have a problem with what I posted, you'll always have a problem with it. Some people are just never satisfied, it is what it is.
Justin Eggar January 12, 2012 at 11:58 PM
On the positive, at least I realize my analogy sucks. You are selling yourself as an objective person just trying to "correct the facts". With that in mind: 1. Someone had already posted information about Lauzen AND Burns. However, you only responded to point a finger at Burns (nothing for Lauzen). 2. Have you ever posted something that called Lauzen to task? I haven't seen that yet (granted, perhaps I missed something?). 3. "Looking at current relevation information to the Kane County Chairperson's race is the correct thing to do." That's a personal decision, not necessarily the best way to approach the situation. For most people, the past is an indicator for the future. 4. "You can go back & forth all you want, if you have a problem with what I posted, you'll always have a problem with it. Some people are just never satisfied, it is what it is." So, unless I agree with you wholeheartedly, I'm the type of person that is never satisfied. I see! I'll finish up what I have to say with that. I dislike politics in general... and I'm sure we could spin on this merry go round for ages to come. Thanks, and drive safely in all this snow.
Jim MacRunnels January 13, 2012 at 03:15 PM
That bus worked out well for Mr. Burns run for Congress......what was the cost ........one marriage and a destroyed family, how sad.
Bob McQuillan January 13, 2012 at 04:21 PM
Justin Here is my response to your questions: 1. Someone had already posted information about Lauzen AND Burns. However, you only responded to point a finger at Burns (nothing for Lauzen). The article is about Kevin Burn's campaign written by Kevin Burn's campaign staff or Mayor Burns himself. His opponent doesn't come into play in this article. 2. Have you ever posted something that called Lauzen to task? What would you like me to take him to "task" on: his education at Duke & Harvard, the fact he owned and ran his own business, his 20 years representing the people of Kane County or that 2 of his sons are currently serving in the military? You choose the topic, write an article about it and I'll decide whether I'll take him to task or not. 3. For most people, the past is an indicator for the future. You are absolutely correct, compare the two candidates past and make an informed decision. That's all you need to do. 4. So, unless I agree with you wholeheartedly, I'm the type of person that is never satisfied. Didn't say that. Re-read my words, if you don't agree with the FACTS that I posted, which is the truth, you will never be satified with what I posted. Why are you so defensive? If you would like to talk privately I will meet you at your office at 403 E. State or anywhere you would like. You can reach me via e-mail at taxfacts@sbcglobal.net. That offer goes for any reader that would like to discuss the FACTS.
John Anderson January 16, 2012 at 01:34 AM
What a slimeball comment. But it should be expected from you, MacRunnels. Both you and McQuillan spend your days in a desperate search for relevance
John Anderson January 16, 2012 at 01:37 AM
No, Bob, the truth is you have it out for Burns because you didn't get an appointment to a Geneva committee. You blame Burns, and your childish rants are your equivalent of stomping your feet and wailing. You weren't appointed for a simple reason: no one on the committee could stand the thought of dealing with your over-sized ego. That's the truth, Bob. Man up, and admit it.
Bob McQuillan January 16, 2012 at 05:42 AM
John Glad you & the Mayor are mind readers, he said your exact comments to me after the County Chairman Forum on Friday. Then he said I had no character. Strange that you would repeat the exact same thing unless, of course, you are his press secretary. "You weren't appointed for a simple reason: no one on the committee could stand the thought of dealing with your over-sized ego." How do you know that to be true? I know for a fact that not all alderman were consulted about the selection. I'm not sure any alderman were consulted but you seem to know they all were. I know at least two alderman don't even know who showed interest. Mayor Burns, in two e-mails, said that he was planning to have a conversation with me either in person or by phone. On the Thursday prior to the City Council meeting, current alderman received a letter naming the new alderman. Mayor Burns called me ninety minutes prior to the meeting, to inform me that he selected someone else. No problem, his selection is an excellent. But why even bother to call me after not having a conversation with me? Why not meet with me? Only he can answer that question. I am not in awe of any elected official and they know it. They can't control me. I do research and ask tough questions. All they can do is attack my character which is the worst thing anyone can do to me. I will met anyone, anywhere, anytime to discuss issues that concern them. Clearly the Mayor will not do the same.
Jim MacRunnels January 16, 2012 at 01:02 PM
Well John, I think that comment speaks to Burn's character. Is that the type of man we want running the county? The true integrity of a man is what he does when no one is watching.
