Karen Ramey: State Sen. John Millner, A Class Act
Thanking state Sen. John Millner for his years of service as a policeman, police chief and Illinois senator.
I was as disappointed as many to read that John Millner would not be seeking re-election to his state Senate seat in Springfield.
His decision to spend needed time with his family is an admirable and understandable one. With most decisions like this, much has to be taken into consideration.
Sen. Millner and I often laughed about the days in Elmhurst, where we first met, when as a police officer rising through the ranks he would share a cup of coffee on his breaks at my next-door neighbor’s house. John was as approachable then as he is now. We often laughed at the irony of meeting again after all those years.

Sen. Millner has a unique way of inserting warmth, grace, humor and thoughtfulness into his daily Springfield routine.
I can honestly state that he is admired by his fellow legislators, staff and lobbyists on both sides of the aisle. Many times, he would serve as a much-needed conciliator and counselor.

As anyone who works among public officials can readily attest, their role is not always an easy one.
All constituents can ask for is a truly open, transparent and sincere desire to serve the people who elect you, keeping their best interests in mind.
John Millner was that kind of public servant. I am sure that I am not alone in sending you and your family our best thoughts now and in the future.
Thank you for your service. We will miss you.
