Geneva Celebrates National Education Week

Public and private partnerships, students and community leaders come together to advance education in Geneva.

Leaders from throughout our community gathered at Geneva High School on Wednesday in celebration of American Education Week.

The American Education Week Leadership Breakfast, now in its 20th year, is an annual event celebrating partnerships and leadership among our students, schools, and community. It has become an annual tradition in Geneva School District and has become well regarded in the community as one of the only times that leadership from both public and private organizations in Geneva meet to celebrate education in our community.

This year’s event was attended by more than 200 people, including student council leaders from each of Geneva’s schools. Students spoke about the importance of leadership and the great efforts of their student councils to help those in Geneva and abroad. Pictured here is Mill Creek Elementary School fifth grader Kyla Sheridan addressing the crowd during her school’s presentation.

Also pictured are Geneva Academic Foundation Chairperson Laura Zuzuly and board member Sam Wolf presenting a $32,051.71 check to fund grant requests submitted by Geneva’s teachers. This annual tradition by the Geneva Academic Foundation has provided more than $1.1 million since 1987 for countless pieces of equipment and opportunities to enhance Geneva students’ educational experience.

Geneva School District also extends a heartfelt thanks to this year’s Leadership Breakfast sponsors: American Bank & Trust, Johnson Controls, MB Financial Bank, and Pentegra Systems.
