Fundraiser Launched After Former Oswego Student's Unexpected Death

Ixchel Deck passed away a week before she was to return from a study abroad trip to Germany.

A fundraiser has been launched to help the family of a former Oswego High School student pay for expenses related to her unexpected death while studying abroad in Germany.

Ixchel Deck, a junior at St. Xavier University, died May 7 while enrolled in the IES Abroad European Union program in Freiburg, Germany. According to an announcement posted on IES' website, Deck passed away at her residence hall in Freiburg.

A "Remembering Ixchel" fundraiser has been established at GoFundMe.com to help Deck's family in the wake of her death.

"Ixchel was just finishing her third year of study towards her bachelor’s degree in international studies and was studying abroad in Germany at the time of her death," the site notes. "Due to the circumstances of her being physically so far away, wanting to provide a proper memorial, and helping to alleviate any extenuating bills that may come from her untimely passing, this is going to be a financially troubling time for her family. Any donation is appreciated in support of saying goodbye to Ixchel."
