Time to Remember Herb Haroldson

A celebration of Herb Haroldson's life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at the American Legion Post 75 in Geneva, followed by a luncheon.

Haroldson died Sept. 23 in Batavia, surrounded by his loving family.

Carl Oscar Herbert (Herb) Haroldson was born on June 6, 1922, in Falkenberg, Sweden, the only child of Hilma and Oscar Haroldson. 

At age 4 months he returned to Geneva with his parents and bcame a prominent citizen.

He graduated from Geneva High School in 1940, and served during World War II as a Marine B-25 pilot and was stationed on Kwajalein Island in the Central Pacific. It was there he met and married the love of his life, a lovely flight nurse named Susanna Melnichook, in 1945. 

Haroldson then served as a Marine transport pilot in Korea. He continued his military duty in the Marine Corps until 1956, when he returned to Geneva where he raised his family. During his life Herb was a filmmaker, insurance and real estate salesman, local director of Civil Defense, and a Fema reservist. Herb was a past commander and lifetime member of the Geneva American Legion Post 75, active in PTA, chairman of the Vasa, and he volunteered with the Boy Scouts as well as Saint Peter Church.
