Habitat for Humanity of Illinois has teamed up with a Northern Illinois University student project team and Vintage Tech Recyclers to host an electronics recycling day in DeKalb. No appointment is needed for this community recycling event, which is open to everyone from any county.

A large team of volunteers will be on-site to help unload electronics from cars. For every pound of e-waste that is collected, Vintage Tech donates money that helps build Habitat for Humanity homes. Electronics recycling diverts thousands of pounds of useable materials from landfills, while raising money to build affordable housing in partnership with low-income families throughout Illinois.

Items accepted include:  PC’s, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, keyboards, servers, networking equipment, zip drives, modems, battery back-ups, cables, mice, video game consoles, televisions, cell phones, IPods’s, DVD’s, VCR’s, stereos, MP3 players, radios, telephones, pagers, camcorders, cameras, calculators, answering machines, fans, microwaves, toasters, blenders, adding machines, reel-to-reel tape recorders, and typewriters.

All materials are recycled by Vintage Tech Recyclers, a certified R2 recycler, whose data destruction technology exceeds the Department of Defense and NIST standards.

Clean out your closets, garage, office, and basement and come out this Thursday, April 19th to help keep the environment clean while supporting Habitat for Humanity. For more information about this event, please visit http://projecthabitat.yolasite.com/
