Over 5,000 acres of Kane County farmland permanently protected through program

In 2001 Kane became the first county in Illinois to establish a Farmland Protection Program (FPP). Begun as a means of protecting the county’s valuable farmland from development pressures, the program has succeeded in permanently protecting over 5,000 acres of Kane County’s rich farmland. A total of 30 family-owned farms make up this acreage, scattered throughout the county’s central and western townships.
