A look at USDA Farm to School Census data- how do IL and Kane schools measure up?

Last year, the USDA conducted a nationwide Farm to School Census to establish goals related to increasing the availability of local foods in schools through its Farm to School Program.

During the spring of 2013, all public school districts received a survey inquiring about their farm to school activities during the 2011-12 school year. A total of 3,812 school districts nationwide, for a total of over 38,000 schools serving 21 million students, are purchasing local food, amounting to over $354 million spent locally.
