FCA sweeps Wheaton Christian, closes in on school wins record

Faith Christian Academy improved its season record to 32-6, inching within three victories of the single-season school record for wins after beating Wheaton Christian 25-10, 25-9 in the eighth-grade match and 25-20, 25-22 in the seventh-grade match on Thursday in Wheaton.

The Falcons won 35 matches in 2011, the most victories by a Faith Christian volleyball squad since the program began in 1995, but this year's team needs just four wins next week to establish a new record. Play strong volleyball next week and the record is yours, Falcons! Mrs. Weeks and I know you can do it! Breaking such a lofty record would be an outstanding accomplishment for this year's squad.

Lauren Caprini led Faith to victory in Thursday's opening match, going a blistering 14 for 14 serving in the first set and 13 for 14 in the second set to stake the eighth-grade squad to big leads. Lauren earned the best attitude award, while Gigi Crescenzo won the hustle award.

The seventh-grade Falcons dug a 10-3 hole in the first set of the nightcap, but 10-for-10 serving with three aces and four service winners by Gigi Crescenzo rallied Faith in front 17-16. Liz Watson added three consecutive aces and a service winner, and the Falcons went on to win the set. Faith captured the second set and the match behind 7 for 8 serving, three passes to setter and four kills from Gigi and 3 for 3 serving by Corrin Schulze to go with two tip kills, four assists and four passes to setter. Corrin earned the best attitude award for her terrific serving, passing, setting and net play in the second set.

The Falcons take on the parents and alumni in our annual grudge match on Friday before hosting Cross Lutheran on Monday with varsity action at 4:30 and the JV match at 5:30. The LSA tournament team then faces Immanuel Lutheran of East Dundee at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday before playing in the state tournament next weekend in Springfield.
