Falcons fly past Calvary Christian Eagles in volleyball sweep

Faith Christian Academy dug deep and delivered big plays when it counted most while showing continued progress as a team as it soared past Calvary Christian 25-20, 25-17 in varsity action on Monday in Geneva. The victory was Faith's first over Calvary after two tough losses to the Eagles earlier this season and earned cupcakes for every member of the team on Cupcake Day. Congratulations to the Falcons on a tasty victory!

FCA's JV squad finished the doubleheader with a 25-19, 25-19 win over Calvary in the nightcap behind terrific serving from Grace Hansen, Mackenzie VanDerSnick, Paige Petty and Jessica Kohlmeyer. The Falcons are now 7-0 in JV matches, 11-3 in varsity play and 18-3 overall. Way to shine today!

In the opener, Calvary jumped out to a 14-10 lead in the first set before FCA won seven consecutive points behind an ace and three service winners from Nicki Smith. Calvary tied it at 17 before Faith grabbed control for good on a series of kills from Anneliese Lockner, Ally Will, Nicki and Jessica Chiaro.

FCA broke ahead 4-1 to start the second set behind a pair of service winners by Jessica Chiaro. Faith kept in front throughout the set thanks to several big plays, from a block kill and back set for points by Corrin Schulze to five passes to setter and a kill from Lauren Caprini.

Corrin earned the hustle award for her strong play at the net. Jessica Chiaro and Lauren shared the best attitude award in a match where nearly a dozen players contributed important plays.

The JV Falcons defeated the Eagles thanks primarily to razor-sharp consistency in their serving. Paige Petty led the way behind 9-for-9 serving with four aces and three service winners. Grace Hansen bombed five aces and seven service points and went 11 for 11, Mackenzie VanDerSnick was 7 for 7 with three aces and three service winners, and Jessica Kohlmeyer went 4 for 5 with two aces and two service winners. Clara Demaray added 5 for 7 serving with an ace and four service winners. Great serving, Falcons!

Paige earned the hustle award and Mackenzie and Grace the best attitude award.

FCA returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Rotolo Middle School. The seventh grade plays at 4:15 p.m. followed by the eighth grade at 5:15.
