Faith Christian wins final home games of girls hoops season

Faith Christian Academy capped the home portion of its 2014 girls basketball schedule with a pair of wins over Rotolo Middle School. The Falcons defeated Rotolo's 8th-grade B squad 27-8 and knocked off the Bulldogs' 7th-grade B team 34-9 on Tuesday at FCA. Good work, Faith!

In the opener, FCA swarmed Rotolo defensively, generating a series of steals and difficult shots that Faith converted into easy fast-break baskets. Lauren Caprini dished out 5 assists, Jessica Smith scored six points with three steals and three rebounds, and Anneliese Lockner added four points and three rebounds as FCA built an 18-2 halftime advantage en route to the victory. Lauren earned the hustle award and Anneliese won the best attitude award.

In the nightcap, the Falcons carved out an 18-2 first-half lead on their way to the win. Anneliese paced Faith's defensive effort with six steals and three rebounds, while Jessica and Mackenzie VanDerSnick led a balanced offense with four points apiece. Brooke Hermes and Anneliese scored four points each in the second half while Lauren, Becca, Mackenzie and Samantha Nosewicz added two points apiece. Jessica had a game-high five assists, and Lauren added two, and Nicki Smith made two second-half steals.

The Falcons (7-3) practice till 5:15 p.m. Thursday to prepare for their final games of the season on Wednesday, March 19 at Rotolo. FCA also plays the parent-alumni game on Tuesday, March 18 at Faith followed by the 8th-grade appreciation ceremony.
