Faith Christian has 400 reasons to celebrate at Cross Lutheran

Faith Christian Academy reached a milestone Monday night. By sweeping a doubleheader at Cross Lutheran, FCA earned the 400th win in the volleyball program's 19-year history. Congratulations to the Falcons of 2013 as well as the Falcons and Warriors who faithfully represented the program the previous 18 seasons. You all played a huge part in this achievement.

The varsity squad opened the twinbill with a 25-9, 25-23 victory. Faith used strong serving to quickly win the first set behind Gigi Crescenzo's stellar 17-for-17 performance. Lauren Caprini and Nicki Smith each went 3 for 3.

Cross Lutheran jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the second set, but the Falcons rallied for the victory, breaking a 23-23 tie by scoring the last two points to clinch the match.

Lauren earned the hustle award, and Jessica Chiaro and Jessica Smith won the best attitude award. Lauren made several key hustle plays at setter and outside hitter. Jess Chiaro delivered 6-for-7 serving with an ace and two service winners as well as two key passes to setter that led to points, and Jessica recorded a team-high five assists at setter in the first set. Everyone made positive contributions in the win!

The JV Falcons then pushed FCA to its 400th career win 25-22, 25-21 behind some solid serving performances. Mackenzie VanDerSnick led FCA with an 8-for-9 effort in the first set that propelled the Falcons to the victory. Jessica Kohlmeyer added 4 for 4 serving with three service winners, and Clara Demaray supplied two service winners as well.

Paige Petty pounded three service aces and three service winners to spark the Falcons in the second set. Grace Hansen added three service winners and 3 for 3 serving, and Clara went 5 for 7 with three service winners in the win.

Faith boosted its overall season record to 5-1. The JV is 3-0, and the varsity is 2-1. Good start to the season, Falcons!

FCA now owns a 400-106 record in 19 seasons of volleyball. All credit and glory goes to our Lord, who has provided the talents, skills, facilities, staff and support needed to make this all possible. Special thanks goes to the hundreds of student-athletes who devoted sweat, sacrifice, skills and plenty of smiles to the FCA volleyball program over the years. There are too many of you to list here, unfortunately, but this accomplishment is truly a team effort! We are grateful for your contributions to a fun, exciting and success-filled run.
