Shakespeare in the Park

Geneva Shakespeare in the Park features Midsummer Night’s Dream July 19

Can falling in love make fools of us all? Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream will answer that question with fairies, magic and comic situations.

Join us for Shakespeare in the Park at 6 pm July 19 in Geneva's Island Park. Admission is free; a $5 donation is suggested. Performed by the Midsummer Theatre Troupe, the play focuses on the adventures of two sets of young lovers and an amateur theater troupe. Set in a mythical city and an enchanted forest, the play chronicles their interactions with fairies and the duke and duchess.

Other notable characters include Oberon, the handsome king of the fairies; Nick Bottom, a comic tradesman who is transformed into a donkey; Titania, Queen of the Fairies, and Puck, maker of mischief.

As usual, the Midsummer Theatre Troupe will perform the play with flair and comedy. The performance is condensed to 90-minutes, and features slapstick humor and physical gags appropriate for all ages.

Food will be available for purchase from Stockholm's and Graham's. Browse Shakespeare-themed items at the Circa table. Geneva Public Library District staff will roam the festival with a fun photo op. Make sure to bring your camera.

Seating begins at 5 pm and is Ravinia-style. Bring blankets, chairs and picnics. A pre-show performance by State Street Dance Studio dancers kicks off the entertainment at 6 pm.
