Philharmonic Orchestra Invites Community to Join-in for "Do-It-Yourself" Messiah

On Sunday afternoon,
December 8th at 3:00pm, the Fox Valley Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra,
Academy Orchestra, and guest soloists will join forces with the community to
sing-along in a "Do-It-Yourself" Messiah
and other holiday music.  While this is
an opportunity for audience participation in the
favorite Handel choruses, those not wishing to sing are welcome to come listen
to the glorious sounds of Christmas.

Sunday's free
concert performance will include the “Christmas Section” of the Messiah (the arias and choruses from
Part I) along with the famous “Hallelujah Chorus" from Part II.  The Philharmonic Choir will add support to
the “Do-It-Yourself” audience which assembles for the 3rd annual
performance directed by Maryann Flock, Music Director and Young Hee Chung,
Choirmaster.

Admission to
the concert is free, but — in the spirit of the tradition established by
Handel's 1742 premier performance for the benefit of those in Irish “debtor's
prison” — this is a benefit concert for Lifespring Ministries and donations are
being solicited. The concert is at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 420 West Downer
Place, Aurora. (Parking lot is behind the church on Garfield Ave.).  Those planning to sing-along can bring, or
borrow or buy the choral part of Messiah
at the door ($10 per book or refundable deposit).

After the
concert, there will be a reception with refreshments in Our Savior’s Parish
House.

The
Philharmonic Orchestra is an affiliate of the Fox Valley Academy of Music
Performance. The Academy’s Youth Strings and Academy Orchestra will also be
performing Christmas favorites and other classical works at a free 1:00pm
concert.

Both concerts are partially supported by a grant from the
Illinois Arts Council Agency.
