NAMI Basic's Education class for parents/caregivers of children with behavior/mental health issues
NAMI DeKalb, Kane South,& Kendall Counties chapter of National Alliance on
Mental Illness will sponsor the signature NAMI Basics Education Program,
specifically for parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents with
mental illness. Register now for this 6 week series of classes that starts on
Sunday October 20, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:30pm at Presence
Mercy Medical
Center, 1325 Highland Av., Aurora, IL.
This educational
course will cover information about ADHD, Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder,
Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive
Compulsive Disorders, Schizophrenia and Substance Abuse Disorders; coping
skills such as handling crisis and relapse; listening and communication
techniques; problem solving skills; and an overview of the mental health and
school systems’ roles in treating children with mental illness.
The curriculum
was written by an experienced family member mental health professional. Two
volunteers who are parents or other caregivers of individuals who developed
mental illness as children will teach this course. These volunteers have taken
an extensive training as course instructors.
